2013 Time Trials

Time trials are a great introduction to bike racing. There are 1000's of events that take place each year with the racing season usually running from February to late September - although there are events all year round if you are really keen!

To get involved usually involves just turning up and paying a small fee for club events, and for open events an entry form needs to be submitted to the organiser in advance. It doesn't matter what type of bike you use, you don't need to spend a lot of money and can start time trialling on a mountain bike.

Club events are informal and usually take place on week nights during the summer. You can just turn up and pay a small fee (£1 or £2) and ride. Open events are more formal and you need to entry in advance, there is prize money on offer for the winner and sometimes category awards.

How to enter a Time Trial

Here are some step by step instructions....

1) Find your event. Click here and search. All the details for each event are there. Local districts are O, J, A, V, and at a push, T

2) Fill in an entry form and post it to the organiser (you should have his address from step 1. Entry forms are here.

3) Enclose a cheque, made payable to the organising club unless stated otherwise.

4) Sign the forms! Remember to sign both the cheque AND the form (many people don't )

5) Post your entry Make sure you post them to arrive no later than 10 days before the event. 14 days is safer.

6) Ta Da! You're entered. You do not need to be an individual member of any national governing body.

Sheffrec as a club pay a membership fee for you to race. And a couple of quid from each entry goes to the CTT as a levy. So why not give it a go!

Open Events
The organisation called "Cycling Time Trials" is the national body that governs time trialling in England and Wales. They are responsible for co-ordinating the information about open events that take place throughout the season. If you want to enter an open event the process is to download an entry form from the CTT website, complete and send with the entry fee to the event organiser.

For administration purposes the country is spilt into "districts" based on geographic location. Sheffrec is in the North Midland district, but this doesn't restrict you to only riding events in our district. The majority of open events are available to all riders.

Details on races can be found on the CTT website and you are able to search by district, distance, date etc. The other way to find out about open events is to buy the CTT 2013 handbook which lists the addresses of all the events organisers. Sheffrec has a copy of the CTT handbook as do several members, so if you need to find out about a race all you need to do is ask.

This is the home page for the CTT website
