We are a friendly cycling club based in Sheffield, dedicated to giving riders of all abilities the opportunity to enjoy every aspect of cycling. Saturday and Sunday club runs often visit the Peak District National Park where the terrain is perfect for enjoying your ride. We have training rides on Tuesday and Thursday nights. See the
Club Runs section for further details.
With over 100 members we are regarded as the fastest growing cycling club in Sheffield, Sheffrec Cycling Club isn’t all about competing and winning races. With membership growing month by month, our new members have quickly adopted Sheffrec ways by helping out at many events, marshalling and more importantly turning up on a Sunday morning club run and representing Sheffrec out in the Peak District.
2009 saw us successfully organise three open time trials, our 2-up 25 mile TT in March, a 10 mile TT in May, which incorporated our club championships. Kevin Dawson set a new course record at our 25 mile time open trial in August. In addition, we have continued to run the British Cycling Wombwell Youth League which is part of the White Rose Youth League. After a number of wins in the North Midlands Road Race League, Sheffrec have once again defended the crown and this year Ashley Proctor is the champion, successfully beating all the local clubs in the area. We successfully promoted the Monsal Hill Climb and attracted a record 106 entries. This Derbyshire Hill Climb event has been running since 1930 and attracts riders from local club level to seasoned professionals. Past winners include Tom Simpson, Malcolm Elliott and more recently Russell Downing, Dean Downing and Adam Blythe.
2010 is our 21st year and we are already busy planning events for next year including time trials, youth races and road races.
As a club are affiliated to the British Cycling Federation, the country’s internationally recognised governing body of cycle sport in BMX, Cycle Speedway, Cyclo-Cross, Mountain Bike, Road and Track. For Time Trialists, we are also affiliated to the Cycling Time Trials (CTT) and the NMCF for the 2010 Season.
We have a monthly club meeting, which is held at the Princess Royal Public House. This is located on Slinn Street which is just off Commonside in the Walkley area of Sheffield 6. See the
Club Meetings section for further details. Please note that with the exception of the Join Us, Buy & Sell and Website Help forum boards, only registered users can now view and post on the forums. For full access to the forum boards, you need to be an actual Sheffrec Cycling Club member! We hope you enjoy our website and if we can tempt you, then why not contact us and come along for a ride.
